Department Presents 2007 Graduate Student Awards

2007 Graduate Student Award Recipients: From left to right--Mari Boor Tonn (Director of Graduate Studies); Jennifer Vardeman (Outstanding Research Paper Award); Xiaoying Xie (Teaching Award); Edward L. The Charles Richardson Award (named for the founding chair of the Department of Public Speaking at the University of Maryland-served from 1901 to 1940).

Presented to the most outstanding Ph.D. student in the department. Nomination for the award is made by the student's advisor and/or any member of the graduate faculty. Nominees must submit a current CV and a teaching portfolio. Any Ph.D. student in good standing in the department is eligible for the Richardson Award.

The Raymond Ehrensberger Award (named for the second chair of the Department of Speech at the University of Maryland-served from 1940 to 1953).

Presented to the most outstanding M.A. student in the department. Nomination for the award is made by the student's advisor and/or any member of the graduate faculty. Nominees must submit a current CV and a teaching portfolio. Any M.A. student in good standing in the department is eligible for the Ehrensberger Award.

Department of Communication Outstanding Teaching Awards

Outstanding Teaching Awards are given to no more than five graduate students who are in good standing in the department. Recipients may be either Ph.D. or M.A. students. Nominations for the Outstanding Teaching Awards may be made by the nominee's advisor, any member of the faculty, and/or current or former students of the nominee. Nominees must submit a current CV and a teaching portfolio.

Department of Communication Outstanding Research Paper Award

The Outstanding Research Paper Award is given to the best nominated essay. Papers nominated for this award should have been written in the calendar year preceding the granting of the award. Papers may be nominated by any faculty member or self-nominated by graduate students. Any Ph.D. or M.A. student in good standing in the department is eligible for this award. The recipient of this award shall receive a certificate and the Department's student membership in the National Communication Association.

All award nominations must be submitted to the Faculty Advisory Committee by April 15. The FAC will select the recipients of the graduate student awards.
