Students Win CTE Travel-Conference Grant

Graduate students Heather Brook Adams, Renata Schloss & Hua Jiang have received a Lilly-East Conference Grant from the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Maryland. This grant enables both students to attend the Lilly-East Conference on College and University Teaching to be held April 17-18, 2008 at the University of Delaware.

Lilly Conferences bring together faculty across disciplines and types of academic institutions. The 2008 Lilly Conferences will highlight how to design, facilitate, and assess learning environments that support and enhance student learning: Learning by Design.

The Lilly Conferences serve as premier forums in the country for demonstrating, modeling, and discussing innovative teaching practice at the university level. Lilly Conferences are retreats that combine interactive workshop sessions, discussions, and feature presentations, with opportunities for informal discussion about excellence in college and university teaching and learning. Internationally-known scholars join junior and senior faculty colleagues to discuss pertinent topics such as incorporating technology into teaching, encouraging critical thinking, implementing collaborative learning, service learning, documenting teaching effectiveness, and the scholarship of teaching.

Earlier this year, graduate students Erica Lamm and Hongmei Shen received a $3,200 grant from the CTE in support of their project entitled "Enhancing Teaching Excellence of International Graduate Students in Communication." Read more…
