Bateman Team Receives Honorable Mention

The first phase of judging in the annual Public Relations Student Society of America Bateman Competition has concluded and the team from UM received an Honorable Mention designation. The 2008 Bateman Competition challenged teams to formulate a public relations campaign for the Safe Kids Worldwide effort and was sponsored by General Motors.

Seventy-six entries were received for the 2008 Bateman Competition. Of those 76 entries, three were selected as finalists. Those finalist teams will present their campaigns to executives from General Motors and judges from PRSSA at GM headquarters in Detriot. The finalists came from CSU-Long Beach, Loyola University (New Orleans), and Texas Christian University.

Fifteen other entries were awarded Honorable Mention designation, including teams from the University of Florida, the University of Georgia, and Michigan State University.

Members of the UM team were Lauren Davis, Melissa Morales, Kaitlyn Haas, Tahra Grant, and Shelley Moeller. Co-advisors to the team were Susan Simon, Richard Toth, and Leah Waks.

In the 2006 Bateman Competition, the team from UM was a top five finalist.
