Three undergraduate Department of Communication majors have recently received scholarships in support of their educational goals.
Nicole Glasser is the recipient of the 2007-2008 June Dowler Buteau Scholarship awarded to first semester freshmen who are Communication majors. Nicole has just completed her first year as a Communication major. During this year she participated in the Communication and Advocacy Learning Community and was a member of the student group named Undergraduates for Environmental Responsibility (U.F.E.R). The team designed and implemented an advocacy campaign for energy conservation. “I am so lucky to part of this group and a Communication major” says Nicole. “I hope to continue to be involved for the duration of my education.”
Jorge Sanz Fuertes is the recipient of the Levick Scholarship Award for Crisis Communication. It is awarded to a Communication major who has earned at least 30 with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Jorge is a graduating senior who has earned a 4.0 GPA. Jorge is looking to develop a professional career with organizations that centers on crisis communication. “I believe that my understanding of how crises occur, and how communication during and after a crisis can enhance an organization’s reputation and survival will make me a valuable member of the organization” says Jorge. This fall, he will join the Organization of the American States (OAS).
Julie Feldman, a junior COMM major, has received the 2008 AARP PRSA National Capital Chapter Hall of Fame Scholarship. Awarded by the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, the scholarship awards $2000 to worthy juniors studying public relations and planning on careers in public relations. Specific eligibility requirements include: Academic achievement in public relations courses and overall studies; Demonstrated leadership in your PRSSA chapter and/or community; Contributions as an intern, work-study student, student agency member, and/or part-time employee; and a commitment to a career in public relations
