Vardeman Awarded Gardner Prize from AEJMC

Jennifer VardemanPh.D. candidate Jennifer Vardeman has been named the recipient of the 2008 Mary Gardner Award for Graduate Student Research. The Gardner Award is given by the Commission on the Status of Women in the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

The Gardner Award is designed to fund research that has the potential to make an excellent contribution to the scholarship on women and journalism and mass communication. The award honors Mary Gardner, professor emeritus at Michigan State University and the first woman elected president of AEJMC.

AEJMC ConventionVardeman's project, entitled "Meaning-Making of a Cervical Cancer Vaccine Campaign," was deemed "strong and well-deserving" from the judges who selected it from among many qualified applicants in what was described as a "fierce" competition. She will receive the award at the annual meeting of AEJMC held in August in Chicago.
