Smith Receives ICA Top Student Paper Award from Plank Center

Smith Ph.D. student Brian Smith has received the ICA Top Student Paper Award, sponsored by the Betsy Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations. To help support and recognize student leadership in public relations research, the Plank Center provides a $500 award to the top student research paper in the PR Division of the International Communication Association. The paper is selected by a panel of division scholars.

Smith's paper was entitled "Creating Recognition for Employee Recognition: A Case Study on Marketing Persuasion, Public Relations, and Branding” and was presented at the ICA convention in Montreal, May 24, 2008.

In 2005, UM student Nance McCown (now an assistant professor at Messiah College) also received the Top Student Paper Award from the Plank Center.
