Department Presents Graduate Student Awards at May Luncheon

The Department of Communication presented its annual graduate student awards at a May luncheon held in Wolvin Grove on the UM campus.

The Charles Richardson Award is presented to the most outstanding Ph.D. student in the department. Nomination for the award is made by the student's advisor and/or any member of the graduate faculty. The 2007 recipient of the this award was Belinda Stillion Southard.

The Raymond Ehrensberger Award is Presented to the most outstanding M.A. student in the department. Nomination for the award is made by the student's advisor and/or any member of the graduate faculty. Any M.A. student in good standing in the department is eligible for the Ehrensberger Award and the 2007 recipient of this award was Timothy Barney.

Outstanding Teaching Awards are given to no more than five graduate students who are in good standing in the department. Recipients may be either Ph.D. or M.A. students. Nominations for the Outstanding Teaching Awards may be made by the nominee's advisor, any member of the faculty, and/or current or former students of the nominee. Recipients of the 2007 Outstanding Teaching Awards were Terri Donofrio and Xiaoying Xie.

The Outstanding Research Paper Award is given to the best nominated essay. Papers nominated for this award should have been written in the calendar year preceding the granting of the award. Papers may be nominated by any faculty member or self-nominated by graduate students. Any Ph.D. or M.A. student in good standing in the department is eligible for this award. The recipient of this award shall receive a certificate and the Department's student membership in the National Communication Association. Jennifer Vardeman received the 2007 Outstanding Research Paper Award.
