Gardner Receives ASHR Dissertation Award

Elizabeth Gardner, a 2016 Ph.D. alumna from the Department of Communication, has received the 2017 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the American Society for the History of Rhetoric.

Her dissertation is entitled: “The Child Labor Movement’s Night Messenger Service Campaign: Rights and Reform in the Progressive Era.”

Parry-Giles Interviewed on Lincoln

Professor and Chair Shawn J. Parry-Giles has recently been interviewed about her latest book, Memories of Lincoln and the Splintering of American Political Thought. Co-authored with Carneige Mellon's David Kaufer, the book is a look at how memories of Lincoln became an important form of political rhetoric; the book sheds light on how divergent schools of U.S. political thought came to recruit Lincoln as their standard-bearer.

Khamis Leads "Spread Hummus, Not Hate" Event

Associate Professor Sahar Khamis participated in the 4th annual "Spread Hummus Not Hate" Bus Tour, which brought together a group of Muslim and Jewish interfaith leaders and peace activists, who toured different places of worship and different universities in the Greater Washington area, including the University of Maryland.
