Meina Liu (Ph.D., Purdue University, 2006), Assistant Professor, specializes in organizational communication, intercultural communication, and the role of emotion in conflict management and negotiation. Her current research investigates (a) the message production processes whereby emotions, such as anger and compassion, influence negotiation performance, (b) how negotiators from different national cultures differ in these processes, and (c) how the interdependence of dyadic data contributes to our understanding of negotiation processes. She has also engaged in collaborative research examining culture's effects on supportive communication processes, particularly the provision and reception of emotional support, which has recently appeared in Communication Research and the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. In addition, she has co-authored work concerning gendered practices in the workplace through critical analyses of maternity leave discourses, which appeared as lead articles in the Journal of Business Communication and the Journal of Applied Communication Research, in addition to other outlets such as Communication Studies, and a recent book chapter in Problematic relationships in the workplace (Fritz & Omdahl, Eds.).
