Professional Interests: 

Erika A. Perez Montes, a Ronald E. McNair Fellow, is a graduate student in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland. They earned their Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Monterey Bay with concentrations in Communication Studies and Ethnic & Gender Studies and a minor in Psychology. 

Erika’s research interests are Microaggressions within the LGBTQ+ Community focusing on gender and sexual orientation. They have taken a mix method approach to this research from literature review to an autoethnography and more recently to an experimental survey. While this is their main focus, broadly, Erika is interested in race, racial identity, gender, sexual orientation, interpersonal communication, and social activism. Erika currently, teaches COMM 107.
