Brian Schoem

Program Management Specialist, UMSG
Professional Interests:

Upon graduating from the University of  Maryland at College Park with a B.A. in Government and Politics, Brian served as Maryland Delegate Alonzo Washington’s 2018 Campaign Manager and Community Liaison/Outreach Coordinator.  Here, he cherished the opportunity of being able to meet and work with a diverse group of remarkable people. He regularly networked with many distinct communities with polar cultures, issues, and socioeconomic backgrounds.  Through that position, Brian successfully trained volunteers, led team meetings, developed presentations, developed an internship program, organized events and fundraisers, gained extensive experience in campaign and legislative editing, and supervised over 100 people throughout the 2018 Primary Campaign.  He and his team helped Delegate Washington earn a total of 10,739 votes.  This vote total broke the old Primary record for most votes in the District (7,504) and cemented a solid and commanding first place victory in that race.

In the fall of 2018, Brian worked in higher education promoting voter advocacy for students.  He worked with Montgomery College's Office of Student Life in developing, implementing, and executing, the MC Votes initiatives "Party to the Polls" events.  His role included leading promotional and recruiting efforts.  And in the end, these events drew over a thousand MC students outside on a cold fall day to take part in the opportunity to be more civically engaged.

Currently, Brian works within the UMCP Department of Communication at Shady Grove as their Academic Program Specialist.  Here, he recruits, advises, and assists students in achieving their higher education goals and career aspirations.
