Professional Interests: 

Debasmita’s teaching and research focuses on the science, technology, and society (STS) interface areas. Her emphasis is to understand the impact of science and technology on society and vice versa.  Before moving to Maryland, she worked as a postdoctoral associate for three years at Cornell. At Cornell, her research and teaching involved the nanoscientists and several social issues related to nanotechnology. She briefly co-taught at the Georgetown University before moving to join the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in 2013. She has been teaching at the UMUC several courses since then as an Adjunct Professor. Besides STS, she uses both qualitative and quantitative techniques for data analysis. She uses socio-metric and sciento-metric analyses to look at big data and to conduct social network analysis. Currently she is teaching a course on social networking.
