Professional Interests:

"Originally from Maryland, I received my B.A. in Speech Communication at UMD in 1995 (Go Terps!). After some professional experience as a journalist for small, local papers in Southern Maryland, I traveled to the University of Hawaii and received an M.A. in Speech in 2001 (Go Bows!). After my time in Hawaii, I traveled back to Maryland to continue studying and teaching communication (Go Terps again!). I study communication from a social scientific perspective, and my main interests are intercultural, interpersonal, persuasion, and humor communication. I have taught various undergraduate courses for the UMD Department of Communication at College Park and at the Universities at Shady Grove, including interpersonal communication, negotiation and conflict management, small group communication, intercultural communication, persuasion, introductory public speaking, communication theory, communication research methods, and humor communication."
